Salado Creek Greenway Southern Segment (Rigsby Avenue to South Side Lions Park)

San Antonio, Texas

Services: STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

SF/Floors: 32 ACRES

The 2.3 mile trail, extending from Rigsby Avenue to South Side Lions Park, is within the Middle Salado watershed. This segment is characterized as a perennial stream system within an active and occasionally mobile floodplain. The floodplain contains well-defined terraces which are periodically inundated during flood events. The trail expands public recreational opportunities while providing a safe and secure area for walking, running and cycling. Educational opportunities are enhanced through the use of interpretive features explaining wildlife and plant habitat, and explaining connections to historic features in the area. A predominantly asphalt trail covers 2.3 miles along the Salado Creek and includes three corten steel pedestrian bridges, trail heads with site furniture, a restroom facility, a drinking fountain, solar lighting and interpretive graphics.
