Structural Engineering Summer Internship (San Antonio, Texas)

Each year IES offers, up to five, summer internships for structural engineering students. Through these internships, IES gives students the opportunity to apply their class work to real world projects and gives the students the opportunity to expand on the concepts learned in school. Come work on one of five teams (including a project manager, a project engineer, and a Revit technician) at our San Antonio office. On this team, you will learn how your engineering calculations translate to framing plans and details within construction documents, how those documents are used to produce the shop drawings from which all of the structural members are fabricated, and attend site visits to see how those members are erected in the field.

Prerequisites:

Currently enrolled in or have graduated from an ABET accredited engineering program
Have completed, or will have completed, a steel design and/or a concrete design course (in that program) by the start of the summer.

8am to 5pm

Format:

The internship is in-person (no remote work options provided for internships)
Full time (part time options will be considered)

Structural Project Engineer (San Antonio, Texas)

Responsibilities

Structural analysis and design.
Capable of comprehending construction documents of all disciplines.
Considerable knowledge of structural systems and construction methods.
Capable of producing framing plans, producing project specific details, edit master structural notes, special inspection tables, and specification sections for project specific requirements.
Work with Team Leader, Project Manager, other Project Engineers, Revit Modelers, and other staff to develop construction documents.
Attend meetings with clients as required.
Coordinate drawings with other design team disciplines.
Oversee drafting personnel during production of project drawings.
Perform construction administration after construction document phase of project consisting of field observations, review of shop drawings, responding to RFI’s and creating ASI’s and PR’s as required.
Become familiar with IES standards and use them in design and detailing projects.
Foster a positive work environment within the engineering department, production department, and overall office.
Maintains client satisfaction in the coordination of project work.
Assists contractors in their successful construction of the intent of our contract documents.
Responds timely to RFIs and reviews shop drawings in the timeframe allotted.
Meet project deadlines and task deadlines set by project manager and/or team leader.
Contributes to overtime efforts of assigned team and other teams that need assistance.
Participate in monthly Technology and Engineering Standards Committee or
Production Standards Committee meetings and efforts.
Ensure time is made to make progress on TESC or PSC tasks each month.
Motivated and works toward self-improvement and improvement of communication, engineering, framing, and detailing skills
Minimal travel is required to attend meetings, visit project sites, or other business-related functions as part of your job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with the area of focus in structural engineering
Ability to become certified as an EIT in the state of Texas within 6 months
Good communication skills
Ability to work well with supervisors, other staff, and clientsPreferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering with the area of focus in structural engineering
2 to 3 years past experience in structural engineering as it relates to building design
Experience with Revit
Experience with RISA 3D and Ram Structural Systems
EIT certification
Knowledge of AutoCAD
