Utility Plant Expansion, Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi

Corpus Christi, Texas

Services: STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

SF/Floors: 9,000 SF

The project consisted of a 9,000 SF single-story expansion to the Central Plant Building that accommodates new 1,500-ton chiller, chilled water pump, condenser water pump and associated electrical equipment. Additional requirements included new pad mounted transformer; pad mounted switch, a new transformer, and a new motor control center with starters for chilled water pumps and a 2,000-ton masonry-shell cooling tower. Space was also provided for a sixth chiller and two additional boilers which were estimated to be required during future phases. All utility connections for the new expansion area tie into existing services that serve the existing building. Additionally, grading improvements around the new expansion area were required due to the proximity of an existing drainage swale.
